Jessica Soler and her three kids love animals. And it shows. At their Tudor-style home in Decatur, there are dogs Bear and Bijou, a mouse named Jerry, two frogs and fish in the koi pond. The family loves Decatur because of its friendly neighbors, as well as being able to walk anywhere they want to go.
Mom Jessica got her first tattoo when she was 18, at Psycho Tattoo in Marietta. Since that first ink, she’s added six more tattoos. Two of them were inspired by her three children. The latest is a pink momma dragon with three cherry blossom flowers.

How would you describe your parenting style?
Fun — I feel like there is a lot of structure and discipline, but we also have a lot of fun and snuggle time. I let them explore the world creatively through art by exposing them to a lot of different venues — symphony, theater of puppetry arts, etc.
How you’re different from other parents?
I feel my parenting is different because I’m a little more relaxed with my kids. I let them make their own mistakes and help them to see all sides of an issue. My lifestyle is a little crazy — I’m a single mom with three businesses, three kids and three different men in my life — two dads and current boyfriend.
How you’re the same?
I guess I’m the same as other parents because I pack their lunches, kiss their tears and tuck them into bed each night. We get through homework, family gatherings and any other challenges that come up as a team — one unit.
Most surprising thing that “cookie cutter” people have said to you?
I guess a lot of people ask me if I’m going to let my children get tattoos.
What you do for fun as a family?
We go to the park, we go to the movies, we travel, we paint. On Saturday nights, we snuggle in my bed, watch a movie and eat popcorn.
What do you do for fun?
I like to travel, read, go antiquing (vintage), arts & crafts / home projects. I love to clean and organize everything.
Favorite rainy day activity?
Indoor Hide-and-Go-Seek.
Favorite playground?
Candler Park.
Favorite event of the year?
Spring break or a trip over summer vacation!
Favorite dinner?
Thanksgiving because we always cook as a family all day long!
Favorite kid-friendly restaurant?
We go out for breakfast more than anything, and we usually go to either J. Christopher’s in downtown Decatur or the Original Pancake House on LaVista.
Favorite family board game?
Monopoly.
Children’s favorite CD/music?
Kidz Bop.
Any words for families that look at you differently for being tattooed?
I don’t think people really look at me differently, but I think they just wonder if I’m going to let my kids get tattoos when they get older.
Any words for families that live a tattooed/alternative lifestyle similar to yourself?
Rock on!
If you were a book, what might we not know from your cover?
I’m really sweet, sensitive and caring. I worry a lot about the people in my life and I want the best for everyone.
