Tiny Neighbors, by Maryn Mills and Matt Whitmore

These tunes about backyard animals are catchy without being grating, educational without being boring.

Characters range from the sweet, such as a red bird and lightning bug, to the slimy, such as a toad, snail and slug. My 3-year-old loves every song. The title track is her favorite. “Slimy neighbors slinking by the front door when it’s real dark/Look around a tiny neighbor’s never ever too far.” She belts it out in the car, never tiring of its charm. Funny enough, neither do I.

On several occasions, I have found myself singing along to the CD even after dropping my child off at school. We got the CD from band member Maryn, who taught a creative movement class in Decatur. We’ve since worn our copy out. Luckily, we saved the songs on our computer. Order at www.tinyneighbors.com.
